ROBERT PENN.. BLUES GENTLEMAN
About Me

Robert Penn was born in1954 in Riverside, Ca. to his mother from Mississippi and his father from West Virginia.  He took a liking to  the blues mostly because of influence from the Mississippi side of his family.  His father was a blues lover but growing up in the Detroit area ( Inkster, Mi. )  he exposed Robert to the music of  Motown as well as big band era music.  From age ten to thirteen he studied piano but his heart was always with the  guitar.  Determined to learn to play it, he would transfer the theory of piano to the guitar.  In 1966 his dad took him to Detroit's Fox Theatre to see the original Temptations at the Motown Revue .  When he heard their lead guitarist, Cornelius Grant, play the opening riff on  " I Know I'm Losing You ", he knew his calling in life !!   Robert  has spent much of his entire life learning to be a  master guitarist  as well as an arranger, conductor and vocalist . However,  in 1983,  he  had a chance to play and conduct behind the greatest blues man of all time, MR. B.B. KING !!  That night he realized his first love would always be the blues. Besides working with the great  B.B.King his list of works are as follows :  Opening act for Bobby "Blue" Bland , Little Milton,  Johnnie Taylor,  Aretha Franklin,  Ray Charles ,  Coco Taylor,  Buddy Guy,  Albert Collins and many others.  As  an arranger and conductor he's worked  with such acts  as  The Contours, David Ruffin, The Velvelettes and The Temptations Revue featuring Dennis Edwards.  His foreign country travels  include  Belgium, Holland, Germany,  Sweden , New Zealand ,  England and Scotland. He  is currently celebrating the release of his third CD on his  record label (Kimisha Records) titled "Blues N' My Soul  .  Above and beyond the gigs he's played and the places he's visited ,  he still loves being a guitar teacher and an inspiration to all of his students.
